ANJOU CHENIN BLANC
This wine comes from 100% hand harvested Chenin Blanc, organically grown on stony clay over schist of Rochefort-sur-Loire, just south of the river opposite Savennières. Unlike the Germain vineyards in Saumur, where limestone dominates the vineyards of western Anjou are influenced by the schist rich, volcanic soils of the Massif armoricain. It's this type of rock that imparts a pungent, stony bite to the dry Chenin of the area. Picking up where last year's wine left off, the 2016 is racy/fresh and vividly fruited, with plenty of pulp and a mouth-watering spine of shimmering acidity. Vinified in 2 to 4 year old 400-litre casks, it's a tad fleshier than last year, with white peach like fruit mopped up by tangy, grapefruit pith freshness and an intensely succulent finish.
